I hate my Altecs

Dynamics. Is the new word for compressor. With the advent of digital recording at 24 bit 92khz it's possible to achieve 140 DB of dynamics. CD's 16,44khz only go up to 103 DB so did the Tape recorder at 103 DB. Vynils 70 DB at best condition.

Yes Live recordings remastered with newer converters not those of the 80's but Apogee of the 2000 has made these recordings and future ones almost perfect if the engineer knows what he his doing.

Simply not valid about most new recordings. Budget often rears its head. You often take an overly simplistic view.

Dynamics and compression are not the same word as you suggest. The proper term is dynamic range. And we were using the term before you were born. Compression is reduction of dynamic range, not dynamic range.
